Indre Rimselyte

Based in Leicester city, Indre is a visual artist, illustrator and art mentor working in a variety of materials such as acrylic paints, digital art, spray paint, textiles and leather work. Indre specialises in drawing and painting figures and shapes inspired by the natural world.

Her work is influenced by events of the human condition such as: shared female experience, mental trauma and death. Many of her works feature the shape of a human figure and in her recent artworks she focuses on the expressions of female anger through the human body. Indre likes to accentuate people’s connection to nature by having the figures in her paintings interact with plants and flowers thus showing the ever-changing cycle of life and humanity’s dependency on it. In recent days Indre has been focusing on creating work within the community which includes live illustration at public events, mural work and teaching art within an education environment.

The Leicester Textiles festival is collaborating with Indre as an artist in residence to create a hanging textiles artwork for their upcoming exhibition.

“I’m very excited to be working with LTF on this artwork. I’ve had some ideas pop up in my head straight away once I heard the theme was ‘Nature’. It’s a topic I keep revisiting in my artwork all the time so it hasn’t taken long for me to pick a subject. I just had to think about ‘what keeps us and nature linked together? Who or what could we not do without?’ and these questions instantly made me think about the pollinators. So to keep it quite straightforward I will be creating some sculptural textile pieces of bees. I’m excited to share my journey with everyone.”

Her hanging bees will be hanging in the window of LCB Depot throughout the festival.
