City Quilt

Brought to the festival by artists in residence Bonita Keay and Emma Baldwin: A love note to Leicester, told through textiles

Quilts have always been used to tell stories, and to celebrate Leicester’s first textile festival we want you to help us tell ours.

We’re asking youth make a square that represents you, your textile craft, or your community to be added to our city quilt, to be displayed as part of the festival. As long as your square is made of fabric it could be decorated with anything – embroidery, appliqué, recycled materials, fabric pen or paint, trims, buttons or iron on badges.

We want to create something that represents Leicester and everyone who calls it home, so get involved to see your square on display!

If you would like to get involved, please submit your square, along with a few words on who you are and what your square represents by 24th September.

Your finished square must measure 18cm x 18cm, as the template below. Please leave a 1.5cm border, as illustrated below, to allow for the squares to be sewn together.

The images below offer more information and a template.

You can post your square to either of the addresses below:

  • Rebecca Harvey-Hobbs, 68 Mere Rd, Wigston, Leicestershire, LE18 3RL
  • Bonita Keay, 47 Station Rd, Littlethorpe, Leicestershire, LE19 2HS

Or you can drop them off at the following locations:
